Vaginismus

Vaginismus is when the vaginal muscles involuntarily or continually contract when women attempt vaginal penetration. The contractions can make sexual intercourse very painful or prevent it entirely.

Experts are uncertain how many suffer from this condition as many women are too embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it.

The symptoms of vaginismus include:
  • Discomfort or pain during vaginal penetration, including inserting a tampon.
  • Inability to have sex or have a pelvic exam due to vaginal muscle spasms or pain.
  • Painful intercourse.
Vaginismus can affect your sex life and relationships with your partner. It can also affect your mental health and quality of life. You should see a doctor if you have any of the symptoms. There is hope - and there is thought that kegels, vaginal dilators, and cognitive behavioural therapy can help relax muscles and stop the spasms.

Intimate Rose dilators for vaginismus, painful intercourse, medical exams, and more, were designed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Pelvic Floor practitioner out of a need to give her patients a more comfortable experience.
